The Amur Leopard is named after the river "Amur" that runs along its territory and is the natural border between China and Russia.
It is recognized as the most endangered big cat in the world. Cf : IUCN Red List
A remarkable leopard that reminds us of the one of the snow, with its thick winter coat and large rosettes that make the beauty of its dress.
In the 60s and 70s, the Amur leopard was still present in large numbers in the former Manchouria, China, on the Korean Peninsula and the southern part of Primorye, located in eastern Russia.
Its territory is limited today to a restricted habitat in southern Russia along the border with China and Korea where we do not list more than 35 individuals. The future of this species is very uncertain, but it is not invevitable if we act today.
It must be remembered that the Amur Tiger, which numbered only 50 individuals have seen its population increased to 400 thanks to those who have invested in its preservation.
A controlled hunt, a battle against poaching, fires and cons of implementing conservation measures in China and Russia will lead to increase population of leopards..
The conservatives plan to reintroduce the Amur Leopard in the older parts of its range where it disappeared 30 years ago and about where conditions appear more favorable at present : to go further conservation in-situ and ex-situ
